I'm not trying top defend the installation in the least

I've used various betas on my laptop, but I can't get Notes 8 gold installed to save my life (I have it on my main PC), so I am not trying to argue that there are installation problems. I am just saying you can't really criticize the look and feel of a product that isn't really installed. You obviously can criticize the installation part all you like.
